If you remember, the most posts in our blog are about the fashion shopping, or the reviews about where to shop around Bangkok, right? I think you may bore of these things, or maybe you want to read anything different or outside Bangkok!!??
Here today, I'd like to recommend and give a little of my opinion to you about a souvenirs and food shopping place in Northern province, Lam Pang, where you can relax, buying local souvenir, and northern food in Lanna Styles
at
" GAD TUNG GWEN MARKET " !!
" Gad " in Lanna means " Market" so 'Gad Tung Gwein' means the market of Tung Gwien village.
The first thing we (My parents and I) felt after entering the market is the warm welcome.
"Sawaddee Jao" or " Sawaddee ka/ krub" are commonly said by the market vendors ,when you entering to their stalls or walk through them.
Most vendors actively say the Lanna greetings to us, they also talk and present their products politely.
Unlike other markets in Chiang Mai, also Bangkok,

Unlike other markets in Chiang Mai, also Bangkok,
the market's uniqueness is not only about their polite greetings in Lanna style, but also the proper manner of the vendors!!
They are not angry or give you annoyed actings , if you ask them a huge bargain! In contrast, they smile and tell you the reasons why they can't give you more discount. And even you don't want to buy their stuffs, they still welcome you to look around, and still smile and friendly talk or recommend other stalls to you.
Wonderful manner we've never met in Bkk, isn't it?? hahaha
" Tung Gwein Market " are divided into three zones.
1. Food and beverages
2. Food, fashion, and souvenirs
3. Relaxation
For this post, I am going to focus on the second zone to show you what to buy in this interesting market , ok?? :P
As I mentioned before, Tung Gwein Market is a simply market like others in Northern, but the difference is the biggest zone of all northern food!!
When I say about northern!!
What kind of food do you all think of?
yes there are.. !
" Fried Pork Skin " or "Cab Mhu" in Thai
There are a hundred of stalls selling Fried Pork Skin, Sai Aua, and Nam Prik Num. They fried and make it daily, so you don't have to worry that you will get old food.
As for me I like this one " La Wan Fried Pork skin " :))
3 packs for 100 Baht!!
Another food is
" Nam Prik Num "
or
" Northern Green Chili Dip"
One for 25 Baht!!
Another one is " Sai Aua"
or
"Thai Northern Sausage"
1 kilo for 80 Baht
Simply delicious!!!
You may think that the market almost sell the same thing like "Cab mhu" etc, yes it is!! But each stall has it own special taste, and spices.
You have to walk pass a large number of these stalls,
and taste it before making up mind to buy one!!
Local Fruit
*Highly Recommend*
Strawberry :))
Yummy truly fresh!!
How could we find the pack of big strawberry with 50 Baht in Bkk ??!!
noooo wayyy
Oranges!! Very Sweet!!
Fruit preserves!!
Let's move on souvenir section!!
High-skilled craft bags
The big bags you see are only 180 per each!!
T-shirt
100 Bath/ each but the XL is 170 Baht
Lanna clothes for children
The maximun price is 140 Baht/ each
Lanna pottery for souvenir and home decors
Tung Gwein market is easy to find ; it is located on Thailand Route Lampang-Chiang Mai (It's a main passage way in northern part), Ban Tung Gwien district.
Open daily, 06.00 a.m.-19.00 p.m.
Personally, compare to other food and souvenir markets in northern part is kind of 4 star rating! because the food is totally fresh and good taste, the price of food and souvenir are cheaper, the service is good; all vendors are nice to customers, and the conveniences are really fine; there are a large space of car parking, and there are security to watch over for our safety.
One thing I don't like is there are too much stalls selling the same thing like Fried Pork Skin , blah blah.. T^T
It's difficult to walk to every stalls before we buy. Also it's hard to decide which stalls has the best taste!! LOL
However, if you go to the northern part of Thailand, you should try visiting this market fo souvenirs!! It suits you best , if you are also a northern food lover ^^ Visit GAD TUNG GWEIN , try their food and you will see that what I said is true!! :))
see you next post
